Benefit High Brow & Speed Brow

Brook Shields's Magnificent Brows

My entire life I wish I had Brooke Shield’s eyebrows (and hair, and basically everything). Nature had another plan for me. My brows are naturally sparse, which is fine except they’re patchy and uneven, so most often I have to fill them in with a pencil or powder.

One of the main problems I’ve had over the years is the eyebrow pencil rubbing off throughout the day. It sucks! So basically most days I’d have to carry a pencil with me and do touch-ups. Not the most fun thing. “Excuse me,  I have to go and put my eyebrows back on.”

When I got the Benefit Speed Brow and High Brow in the Evolving Influence Conference goody bag, I was delighted. Benefit is one of my favorite cosmetic brands.. they make the best “makeup that doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing makeup” like Dr. Feelgood, Lemon Aid, and Benetint.  At first I thought the Speed Brow was to be used instead of pencil. For many who have thick enough eyebrows, it’ll work to keep them in place. For me, it works best with a brow pencil to keep everything in place.

In the photo above I have three photos of myself. A photo of me without makeup (yikes!) and immediately after makeup application , then again five hours later. As you can see, the brows are still in tact! I’ve been using this for the last three weeks, and can attest that the small tube does last a long time. Once I started using Speed Brow, I’m finding that it’s a must have in my makeup kit  because it saves me from going the ladies room just  to touch up my brows.

And.. no, Wendy, I don’t want Sam Waterston brows!

My brows are just like yours (sans that great arch) and I always have the same wish- for Brooke Shields brows. I’ve been filling them in for ages, but hate how it smears and rubs away…. so thank you, I may just have to try this.

I use shu uemura’s hard pencil and it does a good job of filling in with natural-looking color. I’ll have to check out Speed Brow as I need some gel to help them stay in place.

Wow, you have got SKILLZ. I reall don’t know how to do eyebrows, but I should learn - since, although I do have plenty of eyebrow hair, it is spread out just about over my entire forehead. Stupid hirsute genes.

You are so delicate without makeup … it works.

That said, I think finding the vey best eyebrow specialist one can afford is the single best investment. There’s a moment when you peer in the mirror wondering incredulously who yanked your eyebrows down and getting them back up gracefully sans surgery and needles can be done. Who knew they could vaguely drift out of place. Sigh. It’s the little things no one tells you.

Great post! Being Asian I also have sparse brows and they are a pain to keep maintained. I constantly worry about them rubbing off, not cute, lol. I will def. have to try this one- plus I love Benefit! Another good one I’ve tried that apparently is really popular is by Anastasia (pretty sure); it was a little pricey I think, but worked really well. And a cheap alternative I like is the eyebrow pencil by Rimmel- and it comes with a tiny brush on the lid. Your eyebrows look great- and props for posting a pic without makeup, I’m not that brave :)

the Sam Waterson eyebrow reference made me chuckle. I think if I could I would just throw away all my makeup and start anew with everything from Benefit!

I’m the opposite - eyebrows are too heavy - but it sounds as if the SpeedBrow would still be good for convincing the individual hairs that to work together in a team effort would not only be good for their souls but would make mama look more beautiful!

I waxed my eyebrows ages ago and they have never grown back the same. I have sparse patches one both so I’ve started using a MAC brown pencil to fill it in and that lovely Benefit brow gel to keep it in place. Have you used the High Brow pencil yet? I’m waiting for my Smashbox highlighter pencil to run out before I start on that.
I love the job you did filling in your brows, it looks so arched and perfect. Is that from years of practice

Laughing because I grew up with the Brooke Shields eyebrows and was teased, teased and teased some more. I ended up shaving them off in the 3rd grade. FOR REAL, I took my older sisters razor and literally shaved off my eyebrows. It wasn’t until college that I FINALLY got the Brooke Shields reference, and now not a week goes by without someone saying so. I guess you always want what you don’t have. Enjoying your blog…found you threw your article on IFB, which I very much enjoyed. My blog is a baby but I love it and try to dedicate a lot of time and hard work.
Best to you.

Jennine, I too am eyebrow challenged (though you have an amazing arch!) and I tried Speedbrow and what an improvement.

I use it over my eyebrow pencil and it’s amazing. It lasts all day!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ohhhhh, I likey. It’s funny, but that is like the one thing I would “change” about myself. I want covet-worthy eyebrows. Must be a popular girl thing. =) I’m actually impressed how real the pencil makes your brows look -not fake at all.
