Having Breakfast at Tiffany’s

by jennine on December 14, 2010

breakfast at tiffanys

For real.

I actually ate breakfast at Tiffany’s. Not just any Tiffany’s but the one on 5th Avenue where Audrey dunked her croissant in a cup of coffee. When I got the invite, I pondered a group of bloggers actually doing that… and hey, maybe let’s do that one morning, a bunch of us dressed as Holy Golightly (it’s not so hard, I did it one year, remember?). Well, let’s do it when it’s not so cold out.

Regrettably I was late for breakfast, I heard there was candied bacon… and other pre-breakfast nosh, but when I arrived, it was amazingly serene and beautiful, with a long table in a grand mid-century room. Architecturally speaking, they just don’t make rooms like this anymore.  There was a small group of amazing bloggers like Keiko Lynn, The Glamourai (who graciously let me use the above photo) and Clutch22. You’d think we’d be talking about Truman Capote, or Tiffany’s at least, but the breakfast conversation was strikingly down to earth, like how good Arrested Development is, and watching the entire series of Lost in three weeks. I loved it.

After breakfast, I got overwhelmed with all the glistening diamonds. Wondering what it would be like to just have a diamond snowflake necklace. You know, just for those winter parties, I’d really like to wear an annual salary on my neck.

On our way out, they handed us these little blue bags. I remember the first gift I got from Tiffany’s was in 1998 my Aunt and Uncle gave me the Elsa Peretti sterling silver bean necklace. Then there was the diamond earrings from  an ex-boyfriend…those I gave to my mom. She get’s all the good gifts! Inside were a pair of sterling Paloma Picasso Hammered silver bangles. Holy moly, how did they know I loved bracelets? I guess they always know what a woman wants.

I love Tiffany’s, not even the jewelry, but the place itself. My mother was a big fan when I was very young, and I remember thinking she looked so glamorous in her high heels and red lips, trying on the biggest chain link silver bracelet I’ve ever seen, surrounded by well dressed sales people and diamonds, everywhere.
Anyway, love the bracelets, simple but beautiful

Lucky Duck! That event sounds divine. I’m glad to hear you had a good time… but sad to hear you missed the candied bacon. :-/ If it’s any consolation, you can make your own. Just lay the strips out on a baking sheet, sprinkle with brown sugar, and broil until nice and crisp.

How neat! I can’t imagine what it’d be like to eat breakfast there-I’d be totally overwhelmed and spend my time trying to keep my eyes from darting all over the place to take everything in. lol. And those bracelets are lovely!

Lovely! We did this for my friend’s birthday one year. We woke up early all put on large sunglasses, black dresses, and heels, grabbed coffee and pastries and headed over to the Tiffany’s on Rodeo Drive where we took some cheesy pics in front of the store and nibbled on our treats. It’s little silly things like this that make me love being a girl.

Oh my!! This super elegant Christmas atmosphere really makes me dream.
When I saw the pics of this post the feeling was the one that I had when I was little and I was watching American X-mas movies on TV, you know the ones where you see the shopping in NY avenues during X-mas eve and all the decorations, and lights and the big department stores? As an Italian little girl, that seemed all really gorgeous and huge and super festive, and that’s the feeling this post gave me.

It’s strange but it’s a jump back in my childhood, thank you!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s! Sounds like one of those bucket list kind of events. I adore the tea cup and saucer shot. Those are the simple, fine things in life we just don’t get to enjoy very much anymore as we are scurrying around with our paper Starbuck’s cups (myself included there). To simply sit at a long table and break bread with like-minded folks is one of life’s true gifts. Do you notice how the sharing of sustenance compelled you all to let down your guard and just talk about whatever moved you? There is something about eating together that makes us feel closer and breaks the ice in a natural way. This event sounds like the best Christmas present ever.
