Coveted Downtown: Army Green

by jennine on March 25, 2011

The past few weeks, I’ve been cruising the streets doing street style for the Eat, Sleep, Denim blog… I have to say, that even though I’m shy about approaching new people (which is why Jessica has to come along to help) it is a lot of fun walking around looking for inspiring people. I’m finding lately that I really love style that’s subtle and more about an attitude than an item of clothing… but the clothing really helps!

This weekend after walking around taking photos, it wasn’t until I got home and edited all the photos had hints of army green. From a the obvious jacket or chinos to a bag and a pair of socks… to something that just really could have been green even it it wasn’t at all. I really love the soft colors mixed with just the right amount of black to add a bit of contrast. So nice…

We ran into the lovely lady behind Sweatershop Me. Love her vintage coat!

I’m wearing my green turn-up chinos right NOW - comfortable, stylish, versatile, and even smart enough for the office. What more could I want?

I’ve seen a lot of people sporting olive pants lately. They look really fresh with a crisp white shirt, and the color isn’t overpowering. Definitely something on my list to pick up.

Such a lovely post! Very inspiring, I was wondering what to wear today, and now I got great ideas for mixes :) I have got my eye on a great khaki jacket, all though I will probably crop it to suit my curvy frame better. I think it is wonderful that you are taking photos of people in the street, I have been wanting to do the same. I am sure you made their day :)

Oh, the streets of New York with the sun shining. Looks like heaven. Right now I’m in the market for some used military/cargo pants. I just saw a pair on a friend that I loved but they’re the type of thing that are hard to find because it’s not like going to buy something new and mass-produced. You just have to get lucky.

I always get such a pang when i see street style shots from New York. People there are soo stylish, we get nothing like that here. I often feel like I live in the wrong city, New York is so diverse, for instance that jewelery shop you stumbled across (in the previous post) was amazing!

Army green, olive hues… are one of my favorites to wear. It used to be considered a more masculine color but now it’s everywhere. It is great to see so many people using it so beautifully.

I love that khaki green, I have some trousers in it but haven’t worn them for a while. Must get them out again for spring.

I’ve been thinking about starting to shoot some street style photos too! But I chicken out every time I get in front of a really well dressed stranger. I love the girl in your first photo, I’ve been LIVING in a similar jacket lately. This looks exactly like something I would wear out and about on a weekday - but she’s making me want some great, big glasses.

Great vintage coat indeed, and I adore how the second girl combines the socks with her handbag, veeery nice!
I still haven’t ventured into the streetsytle hunting thing, but I would probably be quite scared, I did manage to take a snap of a girl at a party, but only after I chatted to her complimenting her on her dress…and I had some friends with me. Then I felt comfortable and took her picture ;)

Army Green is a gorgeous color that i’ll wear this year and I think it will take many years to come because it is an expressive color. And about the girls … nothing but , Great job girls! The photographer is a pro for sure. If i’ll met you maybe we’ll make an album.
