He doesn’t like my pink cardigan, but I wear it anyway.

by jennine on April 26, 2011

Don’t get me wrong… I’m happily married, but my husband HATES my pink cardigan. I love it. Every time we go out, he asks me not to wear it, but I want to wear it with everything. Sometimes it’s a conversation that ends up in very non-lady like four letter words, sometimes I’ll give in, sometimes, I’ll storm out saying “I LOVE THIS SWEATER!” Sometimes I think I love it more because he tells me not to wear it. It’s like an affair, with a pink sweater.

Today is a gorgeous day in New York, which is long, long over due. Of course the first thing to do is break out a perfect spring dress. Here I’m wearing a Cacharel dress bought for the IFB conference last February. Cacharel is one of my favorite labels… one that I’ve always coveted with the beautiful prints and vintage inspired silhouettes. Gorgeous. I love the ruffle printed silk with the laser cut layer over it. It makes me feel so girly. Also… dare I note, loving skirts that go past my knees lately… hooray for longer length skirts! Though I do love shorts… so this is apparently about something, not about skin coverage. Anywho, it’s hard to concentrate on the first gorgeous days of spring… so let’s just look out the window and daydream.

Wearing: Dress: Cacharel • Sweater: J Crew • Collar: Gift from Eleven Objects • Shoes: Tracy Reese • Bag: Pendleton • Sunglasses: Super • Tibetan Prayer Ring, and Diamond Wood Ring

I love Cacharel - it’s so feminine - I’d never have guessed they’d have designed a dress like this, it’s a bit edgy for them but STUNNING for it!

Why doesn’t he like it? As a guy, I can say there are WAY more offensive pieces of women’s fashion than a plain pick cardigan. Looks exactly like something my girlfriend would wear… pink is her favorite color.

haha, he’s a weirdo.

for what it’s worth, i love the cardigan!! and am a huge fan of vintage cacharel!

jennine April 26, 2011 at 1:58 pm

ooh i have a hard time finding vintage cacharel! i’ll have to have you keep an eye out for me!

Annimal April 26, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Your husband is crazy to not love that sweet bubblegum pink cardi! And I’m the same way, tell me I can’t wear something and that’s the first thing I’ll do!

Jennine, I adore that cardie, but then again, I love wearing hints of pink now and then, whether in the form of a cardie, a scarf, a top.
In my man’s case, is anything with leopard print on it, anything! even a keyring, or a teeny-weenie belt, he will automatically hate. I just have to choose to ignore him whenever I go for the ferocious print ;)

Ps. LOVE those shoes you are wearing ;)

I love your pink sweater and the note of colour it adds to you fantastic ensemble.
If I wore what my husband chooses for me, I would end up dress like his mum, hehehhehe.

I can’t think of a single thing I own that my husband objects to. Sometimes he thinks I’m not wearing “practical” shoes or look dressier than he does when we go out, but that’s about it.

Amy April 26, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Hah! This sounds like the “arguments” my husband and I have about my clothing choices, including the four-letter words. Most of the time, I’ll wear whatever I want no matter what he says. I just give him a dirty look and declare, “You don’t know fashion!” I think the only times I changed just for him is when we’re going on a date. Then I’d want to wear something he likes and please him. Otherwise, eff that.

Now, what I want to know: who did your NAILS? Are those flowers? They’re awesome!

I am not sure why he’s pink phobic, looks cute on you and it’s a great sweater! My husband dislikes bright orange sometimes… and I adore it!

so confusing when a husband or boyfriend genuinely doesn’t like one or two things, different than those evil controlling men ..

good luck!!

Well, I have to admit, the pink cardigan looks great with this amazing dress!! I wear things I know my husband doesn’t like…but I try to wear them when I am not out with him…so I do not have to listen to why he doesn’t like them. I think I acutally look better when I please myself first!

Ohh! I was taking a look at your pictures and I saw my engagement ring in your hand!! I have exactly the same ring, although was hand-made in Barcelona! What a surprising world!
By the way, I like this pinkkkkkk!

Chessa! April 26, 2011 at 4:14 pm

hooray for beautiful days, pink cardis and not always pleasing our husbands with our outfits! I have a favorite sweater that I tend to throw on over everything in the winter and he says it’s like my batsuit…but I LOVE it. anyway, you look fantastic and I adore that dress for spring…I loved it on you at the IFB conference too (you wore it with a black blazer, no?) this dress demands to be worn on a glorious day like today!

hehe! Aren’t guys funny about certain garments?! I have one or two pieces that I LOVE to death, but my husband really hates or thinks it’s the most unflattering thing in the world. I think you look gorgeous in that shade of pink, btw! ;) Makes me want to go dig out a pink cardi I have buried somewhere…

Also really adore your pairing the shoes with the pink cardigan! I usually shy away from red and pink in the same outfit, but this really works well. Beautiful! :)

Danielle April 26, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Haha. I know what you mean about liking it more because your husband doesn’t like it. In college, if one of my roommates looked at me like “what are you wearing?” then I knew I was ready to go!

It’s now my goal to buy something that will make the Beau react so strongly it results in 4 letter words.

I love everything about this outfit- the dress, the collar, the nails and of course the pink cardigan. My husband often takes a dislike to items of clothing and more often just laughs, I guess men and women just like different stuff. You should wear what you want! I know what you mean though sometimes you just end up giving in and not wearing it.

Love your sunglasses

I have such in blue color

For Those About To Shop April 27, 2011 at 11:52 am

I am loving longer skirts lately, too! And that sweater is my favourite colour so I have to say I’m on your side with this one. That’s a funny story, though. I read somewhere that men prefer women in red and black and don’t appreciate pastels or bright colours at all. Maybe it’s true!

Ria April 27, 2011 at 12:35 pm

That is such an irrational hatred. Does he just hate pink lol or the texture or something. Seems really random.

TheShoeGirl April 27, 2011 at 3:10 pm

For the record… I LOVE IT! ;)
