While many designers take inspiration from nature, few actually integrate the very surroundings which are the foundation for their vision. Chilean born jewelry and clothing designer Pola Thomson does just that. Collecting driftwood from the beaches of Chile or the volcanic rock from the lava fields of Patagonia and integrate it with silk rope and gold chains to create a wearable work of art communicating the duality of human nature. Part natural, part created.
Pola grew up with many dualities in mind, the landscape of Chile with rain forests and deserts, she describes her own personal style a a nun with make up. She really likes to dress in a very sober way, but also loves to express her femininity. Play with two two worlds. I can see that in her work, with minimalistic, almost monastic color palettes and silhouettes, she believes in a sizeless clothing system for her collections. Her collections have a sense of calm that helps bring some sanity to the busy city life.

Talk about statement pieces! These are so cool. I love the divergence of nature and art and these accessories are a literal translation of that concept. What a great expression of personal style: “a nun with make-up”. So original!
