What better blogger to ask about wedding makeup than one who’s been married a few times. I say that in jest, but really… it’s true. While I hadn’t the guts to do my own makeup like Kate did (gosh, I don’t even do my own makeup for the IFB conference!), I do know what’s important that big day… or any big day, and that’s you don’t want your makeup going ANYWHERE, and you won’t be having time for too many touch-ups throughout the day.
When Urban Decay sent over their “Urban Bride” kit, I was really intrigued. It’s a gorgeous box filled with all kinds of goodies that mostly revolve around keeping your makeup in place for long periods of time. At $42 it’s the perfect bridal shower gift as it’s fun and useful even after the wedding. I tried it for a few days, and I can say that as I type this, 14 hours after makeup application, everything is certainly in place.
Urban Bride includes:
- Razor Sharp Ultra-Definition Finishing Powder to diffuse lines for a flawless airbrushed look.
- Urban Decay’s best-selling original formula Eyeshadow Primer Potion (full-sized)
- Supercurl Curling Mascara to keep her eyes looking fresh.
- Lip Junkie Lipgloss in Midnight Cowboy to give bare and lightly colored lips a sensual, come-hither shine or electrify darker lipcolor with more texture.
- All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray to ensure her look stays put for 16 incredible hours.
- Marshmallow Sparkling Lickable Body Powder to keep the party going long after the guests have left.
Bridal Favorites
My favorites out of the kit were the Razor Sharp Ultra Definition, and it does make a difference with photos. Monday’s photos are a testament to how it makes skin look on film. Great. Plus it makes my skin feel super smooth.
The Eye Shadow Primer Potion is spot on, it’s now officially added to my permanent collection of make up essentials. Eyeshadow does not crease or loose it’s intensity with the shadow primer. Why had I not done this before?
I’ve always heard great things about fixative sprays, but was always afraid to try. All Nighter fixing spray seemed to also work well, though I have to say that between it and the finishing powder, it caused my face to dry out. I would use this sparingly and probably not every day.
Room for Improvement?
The lipgloss was great, but it was so tasty I was tempted to eat the gloss as a post lunch sweet. Don’t put that past me!
When I tested out the Marshmallow Lickable Powder, I was standing in the kitchen, trying to apply it. I called my husband over to see what his opinion was about it, and he just got upset about the powder all over the floor. Woops! Honestly, I couldn’t stop laughing. I guess, the lickable powder might be best tried by an unmarried couple, or a newly married one!
Is Urban Bride Worth it?
Is it worth it to get this? I say yes, absolutely! Even if you’re only interested in the primer ($19) and the finishing powder ($30) it already saves money, plus you get all the extra goodies, so why not? It is fun to play the bride on a weekday!

Urban Decay Primer Potion is one of my favorite make-up products, I cannot fathom how I could ever use eye shadows without it. If I use it with UD eyeshadows, they don’t crease for about 12 hours. It’s magic!

UD Primer Potion is one of my all-time favorite “base makeup” products! I really wish I had known about it when I got married-it would have helped loads with keeping my eye makeup looking fresh. But now I can’t live without it-it even holds up against the Florida heat and humidity!

He needs to lighten up. First the pink sweater complaint and now the marshmallow lickable powder on the floor issue. It’s marshmallow lickable powder, for crying out loud!
Their shadow primer is the best on the market, no doubt about it. Have used it for years.
I have a HUGE wedding to go to in a few days and I wish I could afford the entire kit, but I’m truly skint and on a tight budget. However, I’m taking some tips from this, I’m starting to realise the importance of a good primer, not only for eye-shadows but for the face in general.
