Trying to be Chic on a Rainy Day…

by jennine on May 16, 2011

Mondays blow. It’s good because there is usually a lot of work and snippets to keep a normal person stimulated, however it’s also usually the day when it takes me until 5pm to get into the swing of things. When it’s rainy out, times that groggy start to the week times two.

There are a a couple of things that come into a play when it’s rainy out, both practically and emotionally:

  • Staying dry. Clothes that dry quickly are important. Wool sucks for the rain, washable silk is surprisingly good for these days..which is why I’m wearing a silk dress by Lauren Gabrielson which is a pretty enough color to keep the Monday blues away.
  • Being comfortable. Comfort is always key with my outfits, but on days like today, it’s even more important. I knew that looking at my closet this morning, only loose fitting clothes with a lot of stretch today!
  • Cheery accessories. I had my nails done in neon over the weekend, while they’re already chipping, adding it bits of yellow to help keep the mood up is always helpful, in brightening even the sleepiest of Monday eyes!
  • Easy hair style. If your hair is any bit as unruly as mine, rainy days bring out the untamedness of many a manes. I usually do the top knot on a day like today otherwise it’s just a frizzy mess.

Wearing: Jacket: Topshop • Cardigan: Club Monaco • Dress: Lauren Gabrielson • Handbag: Pendelton • Necklace: Norwegian Wood • Umbrella: Target

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to take a nap on my keyboard.

Happy Monday!

Too often, my keyboard ends up being my favorite place to nap. It’s crazy what a Manic Monday will do to a girl!

Love those neon nails, very cool. Also, I’ve never thought about wearing silks on rainy days before. What a great tip!

Hope you’re having a great week! Stay dry. : )

You look AMAZING! I just want to hibernate when the clouds appear…

I get a rain-induced afro too and it’s NOT a good look.

oh yeah, no matter how much product/straigheners it curls up on rainy days, and never in a charming way!

Love your umbrella Jennine. I have been coveting a polka dot rain coat from the 60s, a cute compliment to your Target find. Very cheery!

I’m so fighting the urge to not nap on my keyboard at work right now. And it’s not even raining (yet) in DC! Did a quick trip to NYC over the weekend and now I’m just wiped. I need a Monday do over.

Looking fab! I do like to see some who has made an effort and planned their attire to be rain-proof yet still super interesting and stylish… it’s so easy to look out fo the window, see the rubbish weather and give up on trying to look good, we end up being more of a mess than the actual weather.

OH dear ever since moving to SF this is an element I’ve never really had to deal with before in my adult life. It’s raining as I speak, since moving here five months ago, Ive gone through four umbrellas already!!! Some days you give up on the cute, thank you for inspiring me to not give up!

You totally succeeded. A fabulous umbrella can make an outfit. I had a leopard print one that definitely upped the ante on rainy day look. Unfortunately, it was stolen at the bank from one of those buckets at the door! Love the necklace too. Wonderful statement piece.
