Norma Kamali Resort: Lingerie or Swimwear?

by jennine on June 10, 2011

Have you ever gone swimming in your undies? Or wore a bra as a bikini top? Often I wish lingerie makers would make swimwear with the same engineering as bras… Norma Kamali has got it. Working with classic designs she’s made tried and true over the years each season updating just-so for women to get the multifunctional classic piece that can be worn and adapted for a long time. When I went to go see the new collection, the first thing noticed that the swimwear had the lace and mesh ruffles of little nighties you’d only see in the boudoir…yet they’re made with the same materials you’d wear on the beach… or poolside. The clasp of the bra/bikini top was that you’d see in swimwear, but the lace and the nude is something I’d really only show my husband. Well hey… I mean, how often do we ever really wear frilly lingerie? This is the perfect excuse to wear it outside!

Take a look at this swimsuit with a built in sheer skirt. Now this, I’d wear to a pool party!

I haven’t had ruffly panties since I was a little girl… these would are perfect!

Nude too racy? She has great mesh pieces in grey…

We also noted some pieces with the rhinestone… now this is very Ice Capades. I like.

Would you wear swimsuit that looked like lingerie? Does it make a difference?

I really LOVE the nude rufflely one lol I would absolutely wear it… It’s like living life on the edge a bit, no? It has so much texture to it I doubt anyone would think I’m naked which is a good thing.

I don’t mind wearing a lingerie looking swimsuit at all, I might prefer the look over a more traditional swimsuit actually =). Go Norma Kamali!

jennine June 10, 2011 at 12:34 pm

yeah, that’s true, normal swimsuits can be a bit cheesy… this is a bit more relatable and chic.

Isabel June 10, 2011 at 11:42 am

I was hoping for ‘standing out’ swimwear for such a long time! The frilly/underwear-like bikinis are absolutely beautifuuuul and in grey probably a bit more wearable :) X

ooh yes, i’m hoping they come in grey too!

You know what’s interesting, I saw this on Karla’s Closet ->

And I was like oh THAT’S what you wear under a sheer blouse!! So maybe some of these bikini tops are great investments because they do give you that special something to wear under a sheer shirt, but they provide more coverage than most bras (and I think people can tell it’s not a bra, it’s something more, which is good).

oh yeah, that’s true, i’ve been wondering that too, mostly i have camis to wear under blouses but a nice boustier would work as well. hmmmn…

So cute! Personally, I don’t think they look too much like lingerie, at least not the boring type I wear! I do hate bathing suits that look like plain bras, but these don’t fall in that category for me. Therefore I love them!

So hot! Yes, I would definitely wear lingerie-like swimwear if it covered enough skin ;)

Hell yeah I’d rock a suit like that! Even in the nude color…. though I think the grey is much, much prettier. Love how your red pops against their muted tones and the vibrant white!

I LOVE this look! What a smart idea to combine looks so you can look more chic and put together in bathing suits. I absolutely love the lace, reminds me of a beautiful Leyendecker lace dress that I just saw being sold at Planet Blue. Check it out below!

My friends and I used to go swimming in our underwear at the beach, it was always a case of ‘let’s go swimming..can’t be bothered going home to pick up the swimsuit…ach, let’s just go in our panties!’
That grey set is amazing, I love it! Not sure I could wear it to the pool, but still…

GRIT & GLAMOUR June 12, 2011 at 9:33 am

Wow, these are so gorge! I’m not sure if I’d wear them, since I tend to be very 70s in my swimwear choices, but the dresslike one for a pool party, oh yeah, baby!
