Review: Does Benefit “They’re Real!” Mascara Really Work?

by jennine on June 22, 2011

They're Real Benefit Mascara

Benefit markets They’re Real! mascara as a super mascara that would almost cause one to wonder if you’re wearing false lashes. Put to the lie detector test, when asked if your lashes are real, you’d pass! Now, I love mascara as much as the next lady, and to be honest, nothing has worked better for me than L’Oreal’s Voluminous. I’ve just tried a lot of mascaras and none of them were worth the extra $10-$15 investment. Hence, when Benefit sent me their new mascara, I decided to put it to the test. Do a comparison between my stand by and They’re Real!

They’re Real! put to the test:

When first putting on, there wasn’t much to be noticed with the difference. I always put on one coat, let it set and put on a second coat. At first I didn’t see much of a difference until we took the photos. It was clear that They’re Real! had plumped my lashes much more than Voluminous. Now, they both had about the same length, but the plumping was certainly unsurpassed.

Wearing through out the day, I noticed They’re Real! did not flake, and when it came to taking off my makeup, it requires an eye makeup remover, which I’m not used to using in addition to my regular facial cleanser. Is it worth it? I’d say yes, my lashes are really lush. As lush as wearing false lashes? No… but good enough.

Damn, your picture sold me on it. I’m going to have to pick some up next time I go to Sephora.

I think they have it as part of the sephora rewards points or whatever goodies you get for dropping your paycheck there… it’s worth a shot! :)

I too am a Voluminous fan; the only other product I have loved is DiorShow but the pricetag kills me. I guess I am going to have to pick up a bottle of this mascara! Thanks for the review!

Oooh yeah, I heard a lot about DiorShow, but haven’t given it a try because of it’s mixed reviews and it’s hefty price tag. Maybe I’ll give it a try!

The Benefit seems a lot bolder, it looks amazing on you. I have tried the L’Oreal one before also and it works very well but I like that the Benefit seems darker and I could absolutely see the difference in the photo.

You still have to try Maybelline Falsies for another drugstore brand! My Favorite one.

I’d say that the picture says it all! My luck with Benefit products has been kind of hit-or-miss, but this is quite convincing.

I personally love benefit, I use the badgal lash and it’s just amazing. I’ve converted friends. What I love about benefit is how dark your eyes look, it almost gives you an eyeliner and mascara type of look in one

I have heard so many great things about the L’Oreal one you mentioned that I may have to try that one first! I always seem to get hooked on something and then tire of it after a few months. I swear, it’s almost like my lashes get annoyed with my overuse of a particular product and just decide not to respond the same way. I’ve yet to find something that I can stay happy with.

Oh, but isn’t that the case with so many things in life? ha!

Thanks for the review! : )
