Wow, there is nothing more eye opening than laying out every product you use every morning. I swear I chalked myself up as someone who doesn’t really wear all that much makeup. Last week’s IFB Project assigned us to talk about our makeup routine, and while I’ve shared bits and pieces, never all at once. So here goes.
Makeup and skincare go hand in hand. Without proper skincare, makeup is just a mess. I tend to put a lot into my skincare regime. Over the years it’s gotten more intense as I’m trying to keep my skin as supple as possible. There were a few years when I didn’t have very much money and tried skimping on skincare, and to be honest, it showed. Now if I have to skimp it would be on the makeup itself, and make investment in the skincare.
For some reason I forgot my cleanser, but if you’re curious, I use Cetaphil. It’s gentile, inexpensive and it gets the job done.
- Loreal Hydrafresh Toner: For the longest time I skipped toners, but they help keep pores in check by picking up anything the cleanser missed as well as adding the first layer of hydration. It’s great for my skintone and once I started regularly using toner, it’s been hard to go back.
- Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum: I’ve been using the moisturizer (next bullet) and after reading the reviews on Makeup Alley, I had to give this a try. I’ve only been using this a week, but can say that it’s really made my skin supple. It promises to increase radiance, skin density and reduce wrinkle.. all products do, but so far, I’m smitten.
- Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer: On my second pot already, and maybe have found the perfect moisturizer after years of looking. Seriously! I’ve been trying all kinds of products and this one really helps my skin look it’s best.
- Dermalogica Age Renewal Eye Complex- This has rentinol and caffeine so it’s the perfect eye cream to reduce puffiness and dark circles. I use a very tiny amount, so it’s been a few months and I have to say it’s pretty great.
- StriVectin Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles: StriVectin is known for thier firming properties as it was developed for women with stretchmarks after giving birth. I really don’t know why I use this so much, but I believe it helps firm up the skin under my eyes.
Now once I got all that moisturizing stuff on my face, now for the MAKEUP!
- Apply Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20: I find that tinted moisturizers tend to be lighter on the skin leaving you look more radiant, so I use this as a way to even out my skintone.
- MAC Select Coverup: This little tube goes a long way. I just use a tiny drop under my eyes and around some spots on my skin. It’s a bit heavier than foundation and totally brilliant.
- Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil and Benefit Speedbrow: Having sparse brows means you have to get a great brow pencil and brow gel to set it so it doesn’t smudge throughout the day.
- Eyeshadow: Not the best at applying eyeshadow. Now I’m using a Sephora pallet, but could really just use one natural color.
- Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner: Because, after 21 years… I always have the cat eye. Always.
- Maybeline Falsies Mascara: After talking about how much I loved Loreal’s Voluminous, someone recommended Falsies. I like Falsies, but will probably go back to Voluminous when I’m done with the tube.
- Urban Decay Razor Sharp Finishing Powder (gift) : Used sparingly to take away a bit of shine without looking powdered.
- Benefit Cosmetics Dallas: Half blush half bronzer to add a bit of color to my face.
- Bare Essentuals Pretty Amazing Lip Color: Quite possibly the best lip color that’s not quite lip gloss, not lipstick, but lush and the color stays for a long time. I can’t quite explain it, but they aren’t lying when they say pretty amazing.
Woah… after looking at this list, I’m a product junkie. What about you? What’s your list look like?

You have some pretty great products Jennine….remember the Tweet about Sephora last week? ummm yeah, Im right there with you. I totally agree about the skincare…..if your skin is not in good shape, it really doesnt matter what you slap on it….its going to look kinda gross:(
I think I may stalk my Sephora soon and seek out some of your favs listed here:)
Have a great day hunnie!!
Oooff they are all great. My trip to Sephora is really overdue.

My makeup routine is so different every single day. I don’t have a standard set of things that I wear daily (except for my skincare stuff, that’s always the same). At 1 time I usually have at least 6 different mascaras that I’m testing or playing with or use for different effects. You should just see my makeup cabinet, I could give Sephora a run for their money

This morning I looked at my makeup bag and was like, seriously?! I could barely close the thing! When you see me you can barely tell I have anything on but my bag is full -might be time to downsize, lol.
I’m still trying to find the perfect cleanser/toner/moisturizer combo. I had a bad reaction to a cleansing system last year and my skin still hasn’t recovered completely. Trying a new product starting today so we will see how it goes.
Oh, and love the falsie’s mascara. You have to make sure the wand doesn’t have too much product, but it’s been some of the best mascara I’ve ever used. I’m using one by NXY now which is surprisingly good (waterproof) but I”m going to go back to Falsies or Stiletto once I’m done with it.

Haha it’s amazing how even minimal routines have a bunch of products to them. And you’re so right about prioritizing good skincare over makeup, especially as we get older.

The Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is an absolute must have. Perfect for summer and if you just need light coverage.
I’m a sucker for makeup and makeup posts! I loved the “sneak peak” into your daily routine and think you were onto something in saying we should probably put more effort into finding great skincare products rather than makeup to cover up what we don’t like. For years, I’ve been guilty of skimping on skincare and spending my money on makeup, but I recently discovered Revives Nightly Renewal Cream and it is AMAAAAZING. It’s a little pricey, but so worth it. It came in one of my goody bags during NYFW, otherwise I would have never discovered it-or spent the money. I will probably cry when I run out.
Hope you have a good week!
Thanks for sharing!

Oy. no wonder I panicked when I left my makeup bag at the gym at 53rd and Lex and was nearly back to Brooklyn when I realized. I called the gym as soon as I got out of the subway and asked them to find my patent red makeup bag in the locker room before i had a panic attack and then I schlepped back up there to get it at 11pm!
Maybe I need to downsize but I just have my routine down!!
I really love when bloggers share their current makeup/skincare faves. I’ve had my eye on the Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum - your post makes me think I should give it a try. =)

I agree, skin care is so important. If you have good skin care products, you hardly even need make-up.

I love make up and I feel that every woman should do make up every day as it boosts up the confidence levels. Jennine, you really have amazing products in your morning makeup routine kit. You also have skin rejuvenating products in it. I think I can go for one or two of them.

Great round up of your morning routine. I also thought of myself as a minimalist with my makeup routine but when I laid out everything I used it seemed like a lot too. I enjoyed your writeup on the skincare. I don’t think I do enough to keep my skin in tip top shape. I will have to look into some of the products you mentioned.

I agree, you have some awesome products! I always considered myself to be someone that doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, but after considering all of the products I use during my morning routine it may come across to people that I cover my face in makeup!
