What’s your fall uniform?

by jennine on October 25, 2011

What are you living in this fall?

Is it my imagination, or do people tend to invest in fall/winter more than spring/summer? The fall months of September and October you see people dressing up in their very best, layering woolen blazers with cozy sweaters, beautiful scarves, darling boots. It’s my favorite season. You got the warmth of summer still lingering in the air, but the chill is just enough get into some fun layering with interesting textures. This is coming from someone who came from a place that had perfect weather 350 days of the year, and deliberately chose to live in a place with crazy weather extremes. I love the buzz in the air when it comes to fall.

This season, I’ve invested in a leather midi skirt. It’s fast becoming the go-to item in my wardrobe. I love how it’s easy to throw on. I’ve also gotten a few warm sweaters to last through the winter, those are an absolute must. J Crew has some great merino and cashmere sweaters that are quite reasonable in price and quality (for ther sweaters in the price category… the best). I’ve also invested in a nice pair of booties, the Rachel Comey Mars Boots are like wearing socks. Being two toned, you can wear them with almost anything, and low enough heel to walk anywhere, all day long.

Finally, every year, I search for a good hat. I’m not much of a functional hat person, last year, I searched forever, and ended up just not wearing a hat in January, when it was 20 degrees outside. Crazy! Here I’m experimenting with the turban look. The Eugena Kim silk turbans are nice and lightweight, and keep your noggen warm just enough.

I think here in the Canary Islands happens just the opposite: it’s so warm here for the most part that most people tend to invest on spring/summer clothes because that’s what they’re going to wear throughout the year: sandals, beach dresses, shorts and so on. I love some winter clothes myself but I admit I can hardly wear a coat or a hat here because it doesn’t get that cold. :-/

I totally love turbans too!

I love this look, you are so right about people investing more for the fall/winter season, I know I do, I just feel like who wants to wear clothes when it’s 90 degress out? Haha, although I do worry what will become of my winter clothes when I move to California?

This is the time of year I start getting blue, I don’t like the cold at all or even a slight chill. I never seem to dress appropriately unless I’m skiing and then I’m always too hot!

I find I do “invest” more in fall clothes than summer clothes just because I like them better, plus when you go cheap on a coat, wool sweater or a pair of trousers it really shows! Spending more on a fall/winter wardrobe also makes sense for my climate (rainy, chilly Vancouver) and for my lifestyle (lots of fashion events to go to in September/October that I dress up for).

What a great look, Jennine! I agree that people dress more in fall and winter…it is just more fun! Peeling off the layers for warm weather is not real fashion fun to me! I love all that you can do with cool weather style….

where is that jacket from? Also, cannot find a midi-skirt that is “midi” on my 5’4″ frame :/

As always, you look wonderful! My fall uniform? Vintage fur bombers w/ skinny jeans, and slouchy beaded maxi coats worn over tight mini dresses. Also, 70s maxis and anything with ridiculously huge sleeves.

For Those About To Shop October 26, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I’m the same with the hats! So difficult to find one that looks good on me and keeps me warm. My favourite fall uniform is jeans, boots and a chunky cable knit sweater, especially with a nice big cowl neck - so cozy.
