Reality Check
Most of you might know, that my duties at IFB have been absorbing most of my time this past year, as I wanted to give the community my undivided attention. However, it became obvious after a while, that I missed the reason why this whole journey started, my personal style blog, shopping musings, and being part of the personal style community.
I don’t know, maybe I lost the plot, or maybe I started thinking that there were so many fantastic bloggers out there, adding more to the noise was starting to feel pointless. But then I heard something on the radio yesterday, not sure who, but he said, “There are things the world wants you to do, and there are things you want to do. You have to negotiate what you do with the world to do something in between. People who do either what they want, or what the world wants are never happy.”
Shopping is fun, dressing up is fun, sharing is fun. Why stop sharing? I miss you guys.
Buffalo Check
Every fall, I get a flannel shirt. Don’t know what that’s about, but they always seem to be the right thing to get, and this season, J Crew has a nice selection in their “Perfect Fit” which true to the name, are the perfect fit. Flannels could very easily end up looking very log-cabiny, not so good for the city life which I live, but paired up just right and it works. Lately I’ve been wanting leather pants, but couldn’t bear shelling out $800 for a pair of decent ones, so I compromised and picked up a pair of faux leather at Ariztia for a fraction of the price. Faux leather isn’t something you want to skimp on either, I purchased a pair a few seasons back which ended up tearing in the knee after two wears. These ones are good quality, and have a good amount of stretch, hopefully they’ll last through the winter, because they kind of feel like sweatpants even though they look nothing like sweatpants. Pairing leather with tweed and leather is a great contrast, which is just how I’ve been feeling lately.
This handbag was my summer splurge which became my staple, fits my laptop and everything else, without weighing a ton. I don’t know if Phillip Lim will do another version of this bag, but I do have to say it’s quite sturdy, and have held up better than some of my leather bags, which weigh twice as much.
Return to the Pointed Shoe
I have always loved the pointed shoe. They have not always loved my feet, so the round-toe shoe was nice for a while, but I was happy to see the point come back. These Valentina patent pumps are the best, I wear them at least once or twice a week. They go with a lot of my wardrobe and are super comfortable. The only thing is they’re so comfortable, I tend to forget I’m wearing heels and accidentally step in cracks which ruin the heel. Oh well, I’ll just have to be more surefooted in the cobble stone streets of New York.
