What is The Outfit You Can Just “Throw On?”

weekend_tweed

When you have a few minutes to get dressed, what do you just throw on?

Like your mental ‘go bag’ only it’s your outfit.

In reality… and we’re talking real life here. I don’t have a lot of time to get “ready.” Usually I’m trying to put clothes on this squirmy little monkey that doesn’t want to wear clothes and DEFINITELY doesn’t want to put a new diaper on. The husband is yelling, “Where’s the toothpaste?” Or something… I’m trying to find my keys (which are usually in my bag, but for some reason I’m looking all over the apartment for them), and drink that cup of coffee that will make the difference between being a zombie and a human. Usually I have about three minutes to get dressed before the baby starts screaming and the husband starts saying “LETS GO!!”

So let me set this straight… even if I have that three minutes, and that’s the only amount of time I have, I will go for the jeans/jacket/tee-shirt trifecta. Have a pair of flats and a pair of sunglasses, and decent handbag, and it’s all set. Pretty much most of my jeans and tee shirts go with each other, and my collection of jackets, shoes and bag are really what makes an “outfit.” Yesterday I went to the Academy of Science with my son and my friend and her son, and I guess I wanted to be all professory, because I wore a tweed jacket. Also, because Golden Gate Park is somehow always FREEZING. Especially in Summer. Anyway, I find it’s handy to have an outfit that’s always ready to go, even if it’s always the same outfit, it makes all the difference in terms of feeling good about facing the world.

Great haircut!! This would be pretty close to my weekday “throw it on” outfit too.

So cute!!!! I’m dying that MCM bags are back in style. I think if I had three minutes, it would be a maxi and a cute top! Have a great Monday doll! Kori xoxo

Ah maxi skirts are the best. So summery! I wish I was taller so I could really carry one off.

This is almost exactly my no time to get ready outfit, too. Jeans, tee and a jacket, But I’d probably do booties because zippers are faster than laces :) Also, YES, your hair is so cute!! xxoo

Hahha, SO TRUE! The laces on these shoes do slow me down a bit, which I found out as I was trying to put them back on with all those “shoes off” play areas for kids. Try putting on these shoes while holding the hand of a toddler who wants to go in another direction.

I love how easy and effortless this is, but it still looks polished!

My go-to seems to be a striped top and whatever bottoms I feel like wearing lately, as evidenced by today’s post.

Oh my god, don’t get me started on STRIPES! They are the best. Because they add texture to every outfit!

Depending on the season.. a dress with flats, or a dress with boots. SO easy to wear.

I love that you’ve written about the morning scramble! Your outfit is realistic, practical AND cute.

Too often, I suspect that fashion bloggers spend hours perfecting and photographing their outfits. While it all looks very glamorous, it’s a fantasy - those women aren’t walking around in those shoes all day, or if they are they’re taking cabs everywhere. Not my life.

I’d rather see real-life dressing by stylish women any day.

I have three kids (the littlest one is five weeks old) and my go-to outfit is jeans, top, trench coat, and flat or low-heeled boots as it’s winter here in Australia. I’ll get fancier again when the baby grows a little and I have time for make-up.

Hi Jennine! Your post title intrigued me on Grechen’s blog, so I thought I’d join you today!
I think this formula could work well for almost any “3-pieces”…i.e. Cardigan, jeans, tee. The 2014 version of the Men’s 3-piece suit!

During the summer a white button down shirt always does the trick for me. I could be wearing jeans, cut off shorts or even just a pair of yoga pants (I just had a baby) and still look some what decent.
