Ten Valentine Treats

Valentine’s Day is about a week away. I view this day in three ways…

  • It’s an excuse to get all dressed up and get extra romantic with my sweetheart.
  • Whether you have a sweetie or not, this is also a great excuse to surround oneself with flowers and eat lots of chocolate. There’s really no need to wait for someone else to buy these things for us, is there?
  • It’s a time for bargains. Stores have special sales and many beauty companies come out with super cute, limited edition treats that are often really good deals.

To help you fan the flames of desire with your honey or simply shower yourself with love, I’ve pulled together a goodie guide to give you some sweet ideas, many of which are eco-friendly, for a good cause, or both.

A Sexy, Come Hither Pout

Let’s start with lip gloss. It’s easy to create a sexy, come hither pout with the limited edition Valentine’s lip gloss sets from Bobbi Brown and Kiehl’s. Both companies make fantastic glosses, and both sets are excellent deals. You get three glosses for the price of two.

Bobbi Brown Heart Truth Lip Gloss Trio
Bobbi Brown can always be counted on for a glamorous gloss that never looks overdone. For this Valentine’s Day, she’s pulled together three of her favorite richly pigmented shades, including a new deep pink called Slopes, in the Heart Truth Lip Gloss Trio to raise awareness about women and heart disease (the #1 killer of women). Get pretty and help a good cause. But if you want one of these sets, hurry. There are only 500 sets available online. $40.

Kiehl’s Lip Gloss Trios
Kiehl’s is offering two Valentine’s Day Lip Gloss Trios. I love that these glosses provide a lot of moisture as well as beautiful color. The Bright & Warm and Neutral & Cool sets each include one of their new “Simply Mahvelous” shades. My favorite is the new, universally flattering, pinky nude Lights on Broadway (in the Bright & Warm Set). $29. Available in stores and online.

Before a Night on the Town

If you’re going out for a night on the town with your honey or your girlfriends, get some help from the pros to make sure your nails and makeup are looking good.

ZaZa Sugar Kiss Mani Pedi
It is seriously time for a mani-pedi. Winter’s rough on hands. And feet don’t see much of the light of day this time of year so it’s time to show them some love before you hit the town in strappy heels. Cracked cuticles and heels don’t put anyone in the mood for love so I recommend heading straight to one of the luxurious ZaZa Nail Spas in the San Francisco Bay Area, where you can relax and forget your troubles in a cushy recliner with fluffy pillows. Just for February, they’re offering special Valentine manicures and pedicures using heavenly, limited edition LaLicious Sugar Kiss Souffle Moisturizing Body Scrub and Body Butter with a complimentary glass of wine. You can make a date of this too – at the San Francisco spa, they have a private, cozy corner for couples. I stopped by the San Francisco location, where my hands and tootsies were transformed into sweet treats. They do expert work in an elegant, peaceful atmosphere. I left super soft, gorgeous, and smelling of sugar kisses. Sugar Kiss manicures are $25. Pedicures are $35. Do both for $55.

Pro Makeup
Makeup artists all over the world are ready and waiting to make you into a work of art before a big date – for free. At Saks, you can book an appointment with a pro at Trish McEvoy, one of my favorite cosmetic companies. Many other companies are taking appointments as well. While you’re getting dolled up, you can see what’s new for spring and get a new lipstick to make you feel better in this ridiculous economy. But call soon, appointments on Valentine’s Day fill up quick like a bunny.

Set the Mood

As years pass in a relationship and the stresses of modern living build up, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget the importance of romance and romantic gestures. It can be really helpful to get some things to set the mood and remind you of how much fun romance can be.

Organica Deluxe Savor the Moment Set
Create a heady atmosphere and be green at the same time. Organica Deluxe carries a wide assortment of luxurious eco-friendly gifts that anyone would be thrilled to get, like organic, sustainable, fair trade chocolates, champagne, and swanky spa sets. I think the Savor the Moment set is perfect for Valentine’s Day. It has organic chocolate truffles and an “eco-couture” DayNa Decker Chandel Sandalrose candle made with botanical wax. I’ve sampled the chocolates… they are divine. The candle is one of the prettiest and most unique I’ve ever encountered with an incredibly elegant fragrance and an organic wood wick that creates a mesmerizing flame. Share the chocolates with your sweetie. Light the candle to fill the air with romance… and then keep it for yourself. All the gift sets support sustainable manufacturers, organic farmers, and community artisans around the globe. Nice. The Savor the Moment set is on sale for $55 for a limited time. Available online. Goodies for the Bath

Bath goodies are always a fun way to treat yourself and/or get steamy with the love (or lust) of your life. But there are so many things to choose from, especially around Valentine’s Day. Here are some that I think deserve your attention.

Enterprising Kitchen Bucket of Love
Get the Bucket of Love to show love for yourself and women who could use a helping hand. This set is is made by women who are learning to be self sufficient and gain economic independence by learning critical life and job skills. Sales support these women on this journey. But don’t buy it just to be charitable. These ladies do great work. Everything smells wonderful, is natural and great for the skin. This set has an organic lavender body oil, soy candle, heart-shaped soap, and bright red bucket for $25.  Buying this will make body, heart, and soul feel good. Enterprising Kitchen has more Valentine’s Day gift sets and a full line of reasonably priced natural soap and spa products.

Bath Desserts Candy Soap Collection
Now if you want to indulge in something sweet without increasing the size of your thighs, go calorie-free and green with the beautiful Candy Soap Collection. Nine natural, biodegradable, fragrant mini soaps are included in a cute candy box. They’ll make you smooth and soft, because they’re rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids and infused with hemp seed oil. The soaps come in Lavender Oatmeal, Fresh Citrus, Coconut, Totally Peppermint, Sweet Gardenia, Linden Blossom, Tea Party, Lemon Aloe, and Ginger and Peach Tea. The set is a favorite of President Ford’s former personal chef and chef to the stars Jamie Fibiger, who says they also make any room smell delicious. $25.

Philip B. Chocolate Milk Collection Gift Set
Philip B. doesn’t just make excellent hair products, he’s also created a delightful Chocolate Milk Body Wash and Bubble Bath and new super rich body cream to match. Made with chocolate and vanilla extracts, these smell so yummy that the body wash has a warning to not eat it. They also contain hydrating plant essences, healing aloe and milk proteins, and conditioning cocoa butter. Take a bath or shower together and then give each other a massage with the body cream. Now that’s a good time. This limited edition, boxed Philip B. Chocolate Milk Collection Gift Set is $62.50. Only available online.

Bring Sexy Back with LUSH
LUSH is encouraging us to conserve water by showering together, so do your part to help the environment with a Sex in the Shower Emotibomb. Plop it on your shower floor and get sexy as a sensual ginger fragrance envelopes the two of you. At $3.95, this is a very affordable way to liven things up.

If you want to get decadant in the bath and boudoir, go for the limited edition LUSH True Love gift set that’s perfectly presented in a sparkly heart-shaped box. It comes with six best sellers: a Sex Bomb that fills the tub with rice paper rose petals (how romantic is that?) and is considered to be an aphrodisiac, a cocoa butter Soft Coeur (The Honeymooner) massage bar that has a soft center and melts as body heat rises, a relaxing Melting Marshmallow Moments bath melt made with skin-softening cocoa butter and almond oil, a Vanilla Fountain bath bomb made with natural vanilla absolute and a touch of burnt caramel, honey and toffee-scented Honey I washed the Kids Soap, and white chocolate Honey Trap Lip Balm that locks in moisture with shea butter. Everything smells amaaaazing. Get this set and there’s no need to leave the house for the whole weekend. $42.95. Available in stores and online.

Organic Cotton Robes
Should you decide to partake in some good, clean fun, I recommend lounging in his and hers plush, organic cotton robes. Even if it’s cold out, you can stay warm and wear these as your only attire all weekend long. The Ultimate Green Store has an excellent selection of them, as well as plenty of other green Valentine gifts that are easy on the environment and on sale.

Do Tell

So what do you have planned for Valentine’s Day? A sexy weekend away? A fun night out with the girls? A date with Netflix and Orville Redenbacher? A soak in the tub with a good book and a choice bath bomb? Do tell.

  8. ❤ Thanks, K-Line! I’ve never let being without a honey get in the way of me having a nice Valentine’s Day. :)
❤ Charm, I love it! That sounds like so much fun! I always love a good steak dinner. However, I am a clutz so I would forego the snowboarding.
